DANA HAIDAR: THE HISTORY MAKING YOUTH OLYMPIAN

As Jordan prepares to send a record delegation to the Youth Olympics in Argentina next month, one of our most successful athletes has shared her memories of her own historic participation.

Dana Haidar Touran took the Taekwondo world by storm in the summer of 2010, winning a Youth Olympic silver medal before adding a World Championships silver medal just a few weeks later in the 49kg weight category.

It was an historic medal won in Singapore, not only was she the first Arab female to win any medal at a Youth Olympics, she remains today as the sole Arab owner of a Youth Olympic medal from two editions.

“It’s the best moment of my career,” said Dana. “Winning a Youth Olympic medal is something adorable and I will never forget my feeling that day. “The competition was fierce but I was able to reach the final. I had prepared for months before hand. We had been to Mexico and focused on our mission which we accomplished.”

The world silver followed, making it a summer to remember for the youngster. “I was so blessed to compete against the world’s best fighters at that time,” she said. “I do miss my times in Taekwondo and I wish all the best for our team who will compete in Buenos Aires next month.”

Jordan will be sending three Taekwondo team members to the Youth Olympic Games that will be hosted in Buenos Aires from October 6-20.
