SHERGO PRAISE FOR OPEN JORDAN
Mar 25, 2017
British based rising golf star Shergo Kurdi has praised the Ayla Golf Club and the standard of the Jordan Open during his participation at the three day event.
The 13-year-old old is one of the game's most promising young players and has a big summer ahead in some of Europe's biggest competitions for juniors, but first he wanted to play his part in his home event held at the Greg Norman-designed course in Aqaba.
“It’s wonderful to be back here," he said. “This is a brilliant course, surrounded by mountains and with stunning views.
I really enjoy playing here.” Shergo was in sixth after two rounds and gave an insight into just how tough the course can be.
"It's a tough course and the wind makes it even more challenging. You have to be on your game to break par here. There are some good players here this weekend who have all found it challenging.”
Shergo said he was impressed with the level of players entered and praised the Jordan Golf Federation for attracting some of the best from the region.
“This tournament has shown how strong golf is becoming in this region. There is a big field with some very good players. The organisers have done a great job."
Shergo is a part of the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) Olympic preparations programme which aims to qualify 20 athletes for Tokyo 2020.
But before that, Shergo has his own plans with the 2018 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) a high target. His family have been by his side in Jordan and he has praised their support.
“They always stand behind me in my competitions, and give me the support that I need. It’s great to have your family always supporting you, this will help me to move forward in the future.”
