ACADEMICS, JOC DISCUSS NEW SPORTS STRATEGY
Mar 22, 2017
Senior officials from the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) have held a productive workshop with students and lecturers from the Mutah University regarding the country’s new sporting strategy.
The JOC unveiled a new national sporting strategy in January, and on Wednesday representatives from the university’s sporting faculty were able to engage with officials on some of its important aspects concerning student athletes and scientific research.
The workshop, entitled “Co-operation between the JOC and sports faculties at Jordan universities” broke down into three discussion topics to develop the strategy and to encourage closer relationships between academia and sport.
The JOC was represented by Vice Presidents Dr Sari Hamdan and Dr Khaled Attiyat along with Secretary General Nasser Majali and other officials.
The workshop addressed the challenges facing young Jordanian athletes who are trying to excel in education.
The various JOC programmes were discussed as well as how scientific research can be encouraged and implemented to further develop sporting performance.
“I was very impressed with the level of engagement from those present and I would like to extend our appreciation to Mutah University for what turned out to be a very productive exercise,” said Mr Majali.
“Universities have a vital role to play in the development of our athletes and we look forward to developing this relationship, particularly in the areas of athlete/student well-being and scientific research.”
