JORDAN SET FOR ASIAN 7s
Feb 27, 2017
Jordan is putting in the final preparation for this weekend’s Asian Rugby 7s which will see the Kingdom take on some of the best second tier nations on the continent for a place in the big time.
The Asian 7s takes place in Doha from March 3-4 with Jordan drawn with Pakistan and Singapore in Group A.
English coach Graeme Forbes has stepped up the training this week knowing what challenge awaits in Qatar.
“It is going to be a very high level of competition so the coach has been putting us through some tough training sessions,” said Mohammad Majed, captain.
“But these are the competitions that all of us as players want to be a part of and to show that we can compete in.
“The Jordan Rugby Committee only became officially recognised by Asian Rugby last year so we are relatively new and this tournament will provide us with the opportunity to show at what level we are at compared to the rest of Asia.
“We are also aware that rugby is not particularly well known in Jordan so we have a part to play in raising awareness by doing well in these tournaments.
If we manage some wins then it can only be good for the game here.
” There are four groups of three teams taking part with only the overall tournament winner guaranteed a spot in the elite Asian competitions later this year.
Group B includes The Philippines, Qatar and Nepal.
Group C consists of UAE and India, and Group D includes Thailand, Iran and Bangladesh.
The team will fly to Doha on Wednesday.
