Jordan will host the Ayla Oasis West Asian Triathlon and Duathlon on November 18, and Olympian Lawrence Fanous is expected to take part.
Fanous became the first Jordanian to compete in the sport at the Olympics this summer and will head a quality field of both professional and amateur athletes in Aqaba.
The event will consist of 750m swim, 20km road bike and 5k run and will be based around the impressive developments taking shape in the Red Sea city.
Tareq Khayyat, President of the Jordan Triathlon Federation, said: We seek to strengthen Jordan’s international standing as a leading sports tourism destination and raise the profile of such events here.
“The championship will also enable us to identify new local talent so we encourage people to find out more information and enter.”
Cash prizes of 10,000 JD will be distributed to the winners.
