Al-Jaafari wins world silver
Oct 13, 2024
Muhammad Al-Jaafari has won a brilliant silver medal in the Under-21 category at the World Karate Championships held in Venice, Italy.
Al-Jaafari lost his -84kg final against Egypt’s Omar Othman, which ended in a 2-2 draw, but with Al-Othman winning based on the scoring advantage.
Earlier in the tournament he had beaten fighters from France, Italy, Serbia and Saudi Arabia to reach the finals, with his silver added to the bronze he won at the senior World Championships last year.
He has previously won gold at the Junior World Championships in 2019, and a bronze medal at the Under-21 World Championships in 2022 to show he is one of the best up-and-comer fighters of his age.
The silver means Jordan finished the tournament with three medals following a gold won by Hani Rashid the previous day in the -55kg weight class.
Hatem Al-Harasis claimed a silver medal in the junior category for the -57kg weight class.
Sadly, Yousef Nofal lost his bronze medal match in the +84kg weight class for the Under-21 category, losing to Spanish player Marquez Borja with a score of 1-2.
