Jordan has secured its first medal of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with Zaid Mustafa winning silver in the Taekwondo 68kg event.
Mustafa flight superbly but eventually lost a tight final 2-0 to Ulugbek Rashitov of Uzbekistan, the reigning Olympic Champion.
Mustafa, 23, was in scintillating form all day as he blazed a glorious trail to the final, starting with a first-round win over Brazil’s Edival Pontes.
He then overcame Turkey’s Hakan Recber, the 2023 World Champion, in the quarter-finals before a brilliant performance saw him get the better of Great Britain’s Bradly Sinden, the Tokyo 2020 silver medallist.
The final was a tense affair, but Rashitov got the edge to take gold, with Mustafa settling for a memorable silver.
His medal becomes Jordan’s fourth in the Olympics since the first was won in 2016, and it is the third Taekwondo Olympic medal.
Jordan has more opportunities for glory in the coming days with three more fighters taking part in the Taekwondo.
