Boxer Obada Al-Kasbeh has qualified for his third Olympic Games following a stunning show at the qualification tournament held in Pusto Arcezzio, Italy.
Al-Kasbeh booked his plane ticket with a quarter-final victory over Moldova’s Alexandru Paraschiv in the 63kg weight category, after earlier wins over Brazilian Yuri Valcao, and Ugandan, Tokamohiwa.
“I am so happy with this qualification,” he said. “It’s wonderful to participate in three Olympic editions and I can’t wait to get going in Paris this summer.
“The qualification was very tough. Now we will focus on preparing for the upcoming Olympics and I will strive to win my first Olympic medal.”
Teammate, Ziyad Ishaish, lost to reigning world champion, Muydin Khozhiboyev, of Uzbekistan, in the quarter-finals of the 71kg weight category and will have to try again at the next qualification event in Bangkok in May.
He will be joined there by Hanan Nassar (50kg), Hudhaifa Ishaish (51kg), Mohammed Abu Jaja (57kg), Hussain Ishaish (80kg) and Adi Al-Hindawi (92 kg), who all missed out in Italy this time around.
