The tremendous run at the 18th AFC Asian Cup is over, with Jordan’s brave underdogs settling for second after defeat to hosts Qatar in Saturday’s final.
The defending champions retained their title with a 3-1 win, courtesy of three penalties at the
the Lusail Stadium.
Despite the loss, the Nashama can hold their heads up high after a brilliant tournament that saw them shock some of the heavyweights of Asian football on their run to the final.
A 4-0 opening victory over Malaysia, followed by a 2-2 draw against South Korea secured their place in the knock-out stages in third place after a final group D 1-0 defeat to Bahrain.
A dramatic 3-2 win over Iraq in the round of 16, was followed by a 1-0 quarter-final win over Tajikistan in the quarters, and then that memorable 2-0 win over South Korea in the last four.
