Nov 16, 2023
Jordan were held to a frustrating draw by Tajikistan in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers and the 2027 Asian Cup.
It was late drama as Tajikistan opened the scoring in the 90th minute through Shahrom Samiev before Yazan Al-Naimat equalised in injury time.
This match was part of Group 7, which also includes Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
On Tuesday, Jordan face Saudi Arabia in the second round of the qualifiers at the Amman International Stadium.
In the second stage of the Asian qualifiers, 36 teams are participating, divided into nine groups with four teams in each group. The winners and runners-up of each group will advance to the third stage of the World Cup qualifiers and also qualify directly for the 2027 Asian Cup, with a total of 18 teams.
