Oct 01, 2023
Abdullah Shelbayah has achieved an historic victory by becoming the first Jordanian to win a Challenger Tour tennis title.
Shelbayah won the Charleston Challenger in the USA, which is a 75-point Challenger Tour event.
He beat the host nation’s Oliver Crawford in the final, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, and, at 19, became the youngest Arab player ever to win a Challenger event.
Shelbayah is currently ranked 274th in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, and the victory follows a runner-up spot in the Bahrain Challenger Tour event in February.
