BOXERS FOCUS ON ASIAN GAMES TITLES
Sep 09, 2023
Jordan is sending a quality team of boxers with a wealth of Olympic experience to the 19th Asian Games, which will be hosted by the Chinese city of Hangzhou from September 23-October 8.
The added incentive is that gold and silver medallists in China for the men’s events will book their spots for next summer’s Olympic Games in Paris, so training has intensified over the past couple of weeks at a Moroccan camp to ensure they reach their peak. For the women’s they need to reach the semi-finals and a Paris berth will be booked.
Cuban head coach, Dagoberto Scott, will be charge of eight fighters with Hazifa Ishaish (-51kg), Mohammed Abu Jajah (-57kg), Obada Al Kasbah (-57.5kg), Ziyad Ishaish (-71kg), Hussain Ishaish (-80kg) and Odai Al Hindawi (-92kg) fighting in the men’s, while Hanan Nassar (-50kg) and Selina Al Hasanat (-54kg) go for glory in the women’s categories.
Jordan have won five medals at previous editions of the Asian Games, including one silver won by Al-Hindawi in 2014 and four bronze medals achieved by Mohammad Abu Khudeijah in 1998, Al-Kasbah and Ihab Al Matbouli in 2014, and Ziyad Ishaish in 2018.
