ABU JAJEH MAKES BOXING HISTORY
May 10, 2023
Mohammad Abu Jajeh has made history by qualifying for the semi-final of the IBA World Boxing Championships being hosted in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
In reaching the last four, Abu Jajeh has guaranteed a bronze medal at least in -60kg competition, the first time that a Jordanian has won a medal at the event.
His third victory at the tournament came over Bulgaria’s Radoslav Rosenov following a dazzling display of power and skill.
The reigning Asian champion will now meet Erislandy Alvarez in the semi-finals after the Cuban knocked out top seed Alexy de la Cruz of the Dominican Republic earlier in the tournament.
Abu Jajeh was the only Jordanian to continue their adventure after three teammates lost their quarter-final bouts.
Hussein Ishaish lost to Kazakhstan's Norbek Oralbay in the -80kg class, and Odai Al-Hindawi lost in the -86kg weight to Russia’s Ataev Sharabutdin.
Youssef Ishaish lost in the quarter-finals to Uzbekistan’s Asian champion and World silver medallist, Abdulomalik Khalukov.
