JORDAN QUALIFIES FOR BASKETBALL WORLD CUP
Feb 24, 2023
Jordan have reached the finals of the FIBA World Cup for the third time, after beating hosts India 98-63 in Bangalore.
The team secured their second consecutive qualification prior to the match after main rivals Saudi Arabia lost to New Zealand, meaning Jordan can’t be caught in Group E by their neighbours for the remaining qualification sport.
It’s been an incredible turn around by the team who picked up five wins and four defeats to secure enough points.
The long campaign started with a victory over India (80-64) before defeats to New Zealand (72-100) and The Philippines (66-74), put their qualification in doubt.
But a tremendous win over New Zealand in Amman, 92-75, kickstarted a revival, leading to this weekend’s showdown in India.
Monday’s final match against The Philippines will not impact the standings, with Jordan already qualified from the group alongside Lebanon and New Zealand, with The Philippines guaranteed a spot in their position as hosts, along with Indonesia and Japan.
The finals will take place August 25-September 10.
Jordan made their World Cup finals debut in 2010, before also securing their place at the last edition in 2019.
