HRH PRINCE FEISAL LAUNCHES JORDAN OLYMPIC ACADEMY
Feb 22, 2023
HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, the President of the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC), has launched the Jordan Olympic Academy (JOA) in Amman.
Attended by members of the Royal Family, the ceremony also welcomed the Minister of Youth, His Excellency Mohammed Salama Fares Al-Nabulsi; Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Nawaf Al-Ajarmah; JOC Vice-Presidents, Dr. Sari Hamdan and Dr. Khaled Atiyat; along with a number of country ambassadors, international organisations, and national sports federations.
The Jordan Olympic Academy - a non-profit organisation – was initially formed last year as an educational arm of the JOC, providing accredited learning programmes and projects in sports management, training and Olympic education.
Dr. Hamdan highlighted its academic importance to serve the sports industry, promoting the basic principles and values of the Olympic Movement.
He revealed that the project was the vision of HRH Prince Feisal to create a specialised tool to spread the Spirit of Olympism throughout the Kingdom and beyond through educational programmes and initiatives. This will in turn create a generation of sports leaders to drive the industry forward.
A presentation of the Academy’s structure, goals and programmes was delivered, and a discussion session entitled ‘The Role of the Jordanian Olympic Academy in the Sports and Society Sector’ was held in the presence Abdul Rahman Al-Masatfa, who won bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Academy’s scope of work covers the full spectrum of the sports industry including the promotion of gender equality in sport, as well as protecting the well-being and safety for all participating in sporting activity.
It is also intended that those attending the Academy can also be fed into the wider educational system to expend their career opportunities to encourage more athletes to incorporate learning into their athletic careers.
This will, in turn, create a vast library of educational and scientific research homed within the Academy to become a font of archived information for all to access in order to further benefit the sports sector.
Sports seminars and conferences will also be organised with relevant national and international bodies in conjunction with the Academy.
