HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, member of the International Olympic Committee Executive Board and President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, attended the Opening Ceremony of the first Saudi Games on Friday evening at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.
The visit included several meetings with key sporting figures attending the event which is the largest national sporting event ever held in the Kingdom, attracting 6,000 athletes from across the country competing in 45 individual and team sports.
HRH Prince Feisal said that it was an honour to be invited to the Opening Ceremony, praising the role of Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sport and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committees, for his contribution to the development of sport in Saudi Arabia.
“Sport in Saudi Arabia has enjoyed significant development in recent years,” said HRH Prince Feisal, “and the launch of these Games demonstrates just how far it has come whilst also providing the Kingdom’s athletes with an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in a competitive atmosphere comparable to that of a major multi-sport tournament.”
The Saudi Games’ mission is to inspire Saudi youth through sports and demonstrate the Kingdom's capabilities globally in hosting the largest events.
Among the 45 sports are five events dedicated to Paralympic sports.
