Jordan is sending a strong squad of swimmers to compete at the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games that will be hosted in Konya, Turkey, from August 9-18.
This will be the second time in a row, and the third time in total, that Jordan will compete in the swimming events at the Games, and they will be coached by the experienced Dr. Ali Al-Nawaisah.
Olympian Amro Al-Wir will be joined by Muhammad Al-Badour and Ziad Al-Salous in Turkey, as the trio bid to make the podiums to build on their fine form at the Arab Championships in Oran, Algeria, last week where Jordan won six medals, including one gold and one silver.
Last time out at the Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, Olympian Khader Baqleh won double gold while the men’s relay picked up bronze.
“We have great memories of Baku, when we got two gold and one bronze,” said Dr. Al-Nawaisah. “Our training and preparations have gone very well, so the swimmers are travelling in excellent form to try and achieve something for Jordan.
“It will be very strong competition in Konya, but we have done everything we can to be ready.”
Jordan will participate in 11 sports in total, including shooting, swimming, gymnastics, karate, weightlifting, wrestling, kickboxing, fencing, taekwondo, 3×3 basketball, and athletics.
