SHELBAYH WINS BIG IN TUNISIA
Jul 17, 2022
Tennis star Abdullah Shelbayh has won the M15 Monastir Tennis Open in Tunisia without dropping a single set to further his position as one of the Arab World’s most accomplished young players.
The tournament is part of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tour offering $15,000 in prize money, and Shelbayh took the title after fifth seed Daniel Rincon, from Spain, was forced to retire in the final due to injury.
The title is a first for a Jordanian at this level, and Shelbayh proved there is plenty more in the tank with victories over Australian Ken Cavrak (6-3, 6-4), Filipino Michael Eala (6-0, 6-2), Burundian Guy Iradukunda (7-5, 6-1) and then China’s Mu Tao (6-3, 6-3) in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, the President of the Jordan Tennis Federation, Khaled Nafaa, was elected to the Arab Tennis Federation during its General Assembly meeting held in Kuwait.
