AMMAN HOSTS REFUGEE TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) have held their “Hopes and Dreams” Taekwondo Championship in Al Hussein Sports City with over 200 refugees participating.
The event which was held for the first time in Jordan, was organised in cooperation with the Jordan Taekwondo Federation and attracted refugees from Al Za’tari and Al Azraq camps as well as refugees who live in the wider Jordanian community.
The tournament succeeded in empowering the refugees by including them in programmes and plans organised by the International Taekwondo Federation and the TFH.
Jordan plays a proud role in supporting huge numbers of refugees and uses sport to extend a hand of friendship to engage with those who have been forced to flee their countries.
The tournament director, Amjad Al-Otoum, indicated that the tournament also enabled officials to identify the best talent so that they can go to represent the Taekwondo team at future tournaments, including the world championships.
