HISTORIC ASIAN BRONZE DOUBLE FOR FENCERS

Jordan has made its mark on the Asian Fencing scene after winning a pair of bronze medals in the U20 category at the Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Iyad Odeh won bronze in the Epee weapon while teammate Abdullah Al-Tahla picked up his bronze medal in the Sabre.
Odeh won all five of his group matches to advance into the final 32 knock-out phase where he beat players from Kuwait, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia before losing to the eventual gold medallist, also from Saudi Arabia.
Al-Tahla won four of his six group matches to advance, before beating a player from Kazakhstan and then two from Iran to reach the semi-finals where he also lost to the eventual goal medallist from Uzbekistan.
Jordan Fencing president, Dr. Khaled Al-Attiyat, praised the pair and said it shows how the level of Fencing in Jordan is rising on the continental level.
More than 500 fencers from 26 countries competed.
