HAMMAD WINS PREMIER LEAGUE KARATE GOLD

Abdullah Hammad has clinched the gold medal at the first round of the World Karate Premier League held in Fujairah.
Hammad was in brilliant form from the off and secured his -60kg victory by beating world bronze medalist Yurik Ogansyan, of Russia.
Hammad, the reigning Asian champion, started his campaign with victory over Egypt’s Malik Salama, and then he beat the Azerbaijan’s Sultan Huseynov.
In the quarter-finals, be defeated national teammate, Afif Ghaith, before reaching the final with victory over Kuwait’s Abdullah Shaaban.
Meanwhile, teammate Hassan Masarwe, won bronze in the -75kg category after defeating the Kazakh, Biarias, with the ‘advantage’ following a 0-0 draw.
Earlier he enjoyed three victories in his group over Serbian, Marek Ljubisa, Germany, Anton Kolb and Macedonian, Zaborsky Petar.
Masarwe lost to Egypt’s Abdullah Abdel Aziz, who reached the final meaning that the 19-year-old Jordanian moved to the bronze medal match which he won.
The Premier League welcomes the world’s top 32 fighters in each weight, fighting for ranking points at five events which will also include Porto, Rabat, Baku and Moscow.
