Mar 07, 2021
After nearly a year of inaction due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, Jordan’s Taekwondo team has made a dramatic return with seven medals at the G1 Ramus Sofia Open in Bulgaria.
With the Olympics in Tokyo fast approaching this summer, Jordan’s fighters gave a timely reminder of their world-class credentials by picking up three gold, three silver and one bronze to top the medal standings with 40 nations competing.
Juliana Al Sadeq (-67kg), Zaid Halawani (-58kg) and Saleh Sharabati (-80kg) led the way with gold medals, while Anwar Zyoud (-46kg), Mahmoud Al Tarayrah (-54kg) and Zaid Mustafa (-68kg) won silvers and Anas Al Sadeq’s (80kg) claimed a bronze.
Jordan Olympic Committee Secretary General, Nasser Majali, praised the Jordan Taekwondo Federation and called the success a “fantastic achievement” following their return to international competition.
