JORDAN READY FOR TOKYO 2020 BOXING QUALIFIERS

The final touches have been made to preparations for Amman to host the Asian/Oceanian Boxing qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which gets underway on Tuesday.
A total of 221 boxers from 35 countries will be competing for a total of 63 Olympic qualifying spots across eight men’s weights and five women’s.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) has completed all logistical matters to host the event, including converting the impressive Prince Hamzeh Hall into a world-class Boxing venue and Princess Sumaya Hall into a state-of-the-art training centre.
Teams are staying at four official hotels with the LOC providing an extensive transport system to ferry fighters and officials to and from venues.
Monday’s official draw at the Generations for Peace headquarters provided the schedule for the coming nine days of competition, with the first bout set for 11am on Tuesday.
The media centre opened its doors on Sunday morning, and it will be a working home for over 170 representatives from 16 countries including Hong Kong, China, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, Kazakhstan, France, Japan, Kuwait, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, Syria, Uzbekistan, Great Britain and Jordan.
According to Zaid al-Sarayrah, Director of Media and Communications at the Local Organising Committee, the media centre will be open daily from 10am-11pm.
Al-Sarayrah pointed out that event will be covered live by the Olympic Channel, with screens positioned in the media centre to show the action as it happens. In addition, media releases will be published in both Arabic and English.
“We look forward to welcoming our friends from the media to what promises to be a world-class competition,” said al-Sarayrah, who added that facilities are also being provided for media inside the competition venue.
Al-Sarayrah also stressed the important role to be played by the media in sharing the story of the tournament with the wider world.
