Sep 09, 2019
Five members of Jordan’s Taekwondo team picked up gold medals at the International Championship which took place in Beirut at the weekend.
The G1 classified tournament attracted a quality field of competitors, but Jordan’s fighters excelled, with Zaid Al-Halawani (-63kg), Zaid Mustafa (-68kg), Bana Daraghmeh (-49kg), Juliana Al-Sadiq (-67kg) and Siham Mahmoud (-73kg) all winning their weights to ensure Jordan finished top of the table.
The wins bring crucial ranking points for the fighters. Meanwhile, Mustafa and Al-Sadiq will join Ahmed Abu Ghaush, Saleh Sharabati, Hamza Qattan and Anas Al Sadiq at the second round of the Grand Prix series in Japan from September 13 to 15.
This will be the largest delegation to date from Jordan for a Grand Prix, demonstrating that the fighters could be reaching their peaks at the right time ahead of the Olympic qualification cut off.
