Jul 21, 2019
Despite a brilliant effort, Jordan’s male and female teams missed out in the bronze medal matches at the 16th Asian Karate Championships to finish the event with three medals in the Uzbekistan capital of Tashkent.
Abdulrahman Al-Mousatfa, Bashar Al-Najjar, Mazen Al-Jaidi, Nicola Kabbush, Motassem Bellah Kheir, Mahmoud Al-Sajan and Ahmed Shadeed went in to the repechage after losing to finalists Saudi Arabia, and their campaign for bronze started with victories over Hong Kong and The Philippines.
But they eventually lost their bronze medal final to the host nation.
The women’s team of Aseel Al Naimi, Khulood Hussein and Huda Jabr suffered the same fate, losing to the host nation in the bronze medal match. Jordan’s three medals were won by Mahmoud Al-Sajan (silver -84 kg), Abdul Rahman AlMasatfah (bronze -67 kg) and Mohammed Fahd (bronze -60 kg).
