KARATE TEAM IN ACTION AT WORLD LEAGUE

Jordan’s Karate team have picked up some momentum to boost their hopes of Olympic qualification by competing in the third round of the World Karate Premier League this weekend in Rabat, Morocco
Abdulrahman Al-Masatfeh made it through to the latter stages of the -67kg weight with victory over Iran’s Amir Reza, but after losing to African champion, Ali Al-Sawi, of Egypt, Al Masatfeh dropped into the repechage courtesy of his opponent making the final.
There, he beat Venezuela’s Andres Madeira, before losing to Japan’s Fonashi Masamichi in the bronze medal match.
Bashar Al Najjar was another that took the repechage route after losing to -75kg finalist Ali Asghar, of Iran, after two good victories had got him into the quarter-finals. He also made it to the bronze medal match but lost to Azerbaijan’s Rafael Ajayev.
Other fighters in action included Hatem Duweik, Mohammed Fahad Ahmed and Abdullah Kraik who lost in the early rounds.
Next up on Saturday will be Aseel Al-Naimi (-61kg), Huda Jabr (-68kg) and Mahmoud Al-Sajjan (-84kg).
