Apr 19, 2019
Jordan’s Olympic boxers Hussein Ishaish and Obada Al Kissbeh have both won their opening bouts at the Asian Boxing Championships in the Thailand capital, Bangkok.
Ishaish, with two previous bronze medals at the tournament in the heavier +91kg category, cruised through to the quarter-finals of the -91kg weight after the referee stopped his fight with Afghanistan’s Sultani Khyber.
He will next fight India’s Numan Tanweer on Tuesday for a place in the last four.
His fellow Rio 2016 Olympic performer, Al Kissbeh, was also in superb form, beating China’s ‘Wang’ in the -64kg weight to set up a quarter-final contest against Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Chung on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Al Wadi was lost to Japan’s Murata Subaru in the -56kg weight.
Jordan has sent eight fighters to compete this week in a tournament that has attracted 304 boxers from 34 countries.
The trio already in action are joined by Mohammed Al Ghargair (-52kg), Ahmad Al Mutboli (-60kg), Mohammed Younis (-81kg), Zaid Ishaish (-69kg) and Oday Hindawi (-91kg).
