After a decent showing in Turkey, Jordan’s leading and up-and-coming fighters are heading to Hurghada for the sixth edition of the Egyptian International Taekwondo Championship.
More than 550 participants from 46 countries are expected to take part with a large Jordan delegation competing in a number of age categories and weights. It has been a strong start to the year for Jordan with 15 medals won to date, including nine gold, at tournaments in UAE and Turkey.
Head coach, Faris Al Assaf, stressed the importance of these tournaments as we approach the next Olympics in 2020. “This is a crucial time for all of our athletes from the junior fighters right up to those hoping to win ranking points to qualify to Tokyo 2020,” he said. “Every performance counts and these tournaments provide us with the chance to fight against opponents from different continents.”
