His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein Bin Abdullah II has paid a visit to the Olympic Preparations Centre (OPC) in Amman to meet many of Jordan’s leading athletes.
The Crown Prince was received by the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) President, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein; HRH Princess Ayah Al Feisal, JOC Board Member; HRH Princess Zaina Al Rashed, The Olympic Preparations Programme Director; and JOC Secretary General, Nasser Majali. The Crown Prince expressed his pride and support for the sports movement in Jordan and, following a briefing from HRH Prince Feisal, praised the work being done at the OPC which provides top level support and facilities for Jordanian athletes preparing for major international competitions.
HRH Prince Feisal also highlighted the role that the OPC has undertaken in attracting international teams to train in Jordan at their top class facilities.
Crown Prince Al-Hussein met with a number of the professionals working at the Centre providing high standards of support and advice for the athletes.
Also on hand were members from the Qusai Initiative which was created by the Crown Prince to improve the levels of medical support provided to athletes and national teams.
Khalid Zaidan, the Initiative’s manager, pointed out that it has been successful in training an increased number of sports health professionals and improving medical facilities to ensure that athletes are competing in a safe environment.
Majali underlined the importance of the OPC in improving the international performance of our athletes and explained the Kingdom’s National Sporting Strategy which was launched back in 2017.
The OPC was launched in 2018 in partnership with the Greater Amman Municipality and it also includes accommodation allowing teams to camp at the Centre.
The results are already starting to show with Jordan winning a record 12 medals at the Asian Games last year as well as qualifying 13 athletes to the Youth Olympic Games held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
