AL MASATFA GOES FOR WORLD BRONZE

Abdulrahman Al Masatfa has reached the bronze medal contest at the WKF World Karate Championships being held in Madrid, Spain.
Al Masatfa lost his quarter-final in the -67kg weight to Brazil’s Figueira Vinicius, who qualified to the final meaning that Al Masatfa will face Chile’s Camilio Velozo for bronze on Saturday via the repechage route.
Earlier, he beat Guatemala’s Christian Wiver, 8-0, Latvia’s Nicolas Badroves, 9-4, and Uzbekistan’s Dimity Ozakove, 5-4, on his way to his quarter-final defeat.
In the repechage, he beat Egypt’s Ali Elsawy to earn his his bronze medal opportunity.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Kreik missed out at the -60kg quarter-final stage, while his teammate, Aseel Al Nuaimi, lost in the second round of the -61kg weight.
Fatima Al Shawabkah and Bashar Al Najjar both lost their first round contests.
