HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC), has honoured the Jordanian athletes who returned from the 18th Asian Games held in Indonesia with a record 12 medals.
The ceremony, held in the W Hotel in Amman, was also attended by HRH Princess Ayah Bint Feisal, HRH Princess Zaina Al Rashed, Prince Hussein Mirza, Indonesia Ambassador Andy Rahmanito, JOC Vice Presidents Dr. Sari Hamdan and Dr. Khalid Atyat, and other officials from the sporting community.
The team of 35 athletes made history by winning 12 medals, including two gold, one silver and nine bronzes for a record Jordan haul at an Asian Games.
Nasser Majali, JOC Secretary General, praised the achievements during the celebration. “We are so proud of our achievements in Indonesia,” he said. “It highlights the improvements that Jordan is enjoying under the leadership of HRH Prince Feisal. “The delegation, including athletes, coaches and officials, all worked hard together so that Jordan’s flag could be r
aised on the international stage. This is just the beginning as we can achieve so much more together in the future.” The celebration was held in cooperation with Umniah, one of the JOC sponsors, who are showing sterling support to the sport movement. “Like the rest of Jordan, we were delighted with the achievements in Indonesia and, as a proud Jordanian company, we are always looking to support our athletes,” said Umniah CEO, Ziad Shatarah.
The celebration also honoured young boxer, Bader Simreen, who won Jordan’s first ever World Youth Championship medal (bronze) in Hungary earlier this month.
At the end of the ceremony, Majali extend his warmest thanks to the JOC sponsors including Greater Amman Municipality, Umniah, Backaldrin, Josanti, Shami, Housing Bank, Indomi, Samsung and Al Rayyah Media Group.
