HM KING ABDULLAH RECEIVES ASIAN MEDALISTS

His Majesty King Abdullah II and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah have received the athletes that won medals at the Asian Games held in Indonesia, Jakarta.
The athletes and coaches were joined by HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC); Princess Zaina Al Rashed, Director of the Olympic Preparation Programme (OPP); and Nasser Majali, the Secretary General of the JOC.
HM King Abdullah II expressed his pride at the achievements during the reception held at Al Husainiah Palace in Amman.
His Majesty pointed out that the 12 medals were a record haul for the Kingdom at an Asian Games and told the athletes that they were a source of pride for all Jordanians.
The King emphasised the importance of supporting programmes that improve athlete performance and to support the development of sport and create opportunities for all Jordanians to participate.
Held every four years, the Asian Games is the biggest sporting event held outside the Olympics.
Jordan won two gold medals, one silver and nine bronze, four more than their previous best of eight medals.
