Jordan Olympic Committee signs sport for development partnership with Germany
Nov 06, 2017
The Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC), the German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) have today agreed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop sport and physical activity in schools throughout Jordan.
With the support of the sports federations in Jordan and Germany, the JOC, DOSB and GIZ will launch a programme to deliver after school sports activities for students in Jordan, to increase physical activity and improve life skills. Initially, the project aims to raise the number of students being introduced to athletics and volleyball, with more sports to be added in the coming years.
“Sport for Development”, a GIZ regional programme which uses sport to prevent violent conflict among youth in Jordan and Northern Iraq, will provide best practice training techniques to strengthen sport development at the grassroots level. The DOSB will identify specialists to support the project by providing strategic advice and technical expertise as the programme continues to advance.
HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee said:
“This pioneering agreement will ultimately make a positive difference to thousands of students in schools throughout Jordan. We look forward to working with the DOSB and GIZ, and using the power of sport and education to motivate more young Jordanians to practice, improve their skills and lead a healthier and active lifestyle.
“The JOC encourages all Jordanians to embrace the values of sport and Olympism as a way of life and I am therefore delighted that we are joined by like-minded organisations that believe strongly in our philosophy.”
