ATAWNEH LOOKING TO MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE SENIORS

Following his stunning gold medal at the Asian Youth Athletics Championships in May, Jordan running sensation Shareif Al Atawneh will be looking to make an impact on the senior event this weekend. The youngster stunned everyone by winning gold in Bangkok to qualify for the World Youth Championships next month, but will first test his middle distance ability in the 1500m against the continent’s best seniors in Odisha, India.
Joining him in the Jordan team is Abdulrahman Abu Hummus in the 400m, while Alya Bushnaq, who also impressed at the Asian youth event, will compete in the women’s 400m. Tamara Armoush will run in the women’s 1500m, while Mus'ab Al Momani will be competing in the shot put. Jordan sent six athletes to the Asian Championship which will attract 800 athletes representing 45 Asian countries. It will start tomorrow and run through to Sunday.
