OLYMPIAN FANOUS HITS TOP FORM
Jun 04, 2017
Jordan’s Olympic triathlete Lawrence Fanous has hit top form after leading from the off to take the 32Gi Eastbourne Triathlon in England over the weekend.
Fanous, who became the first Jordanian to compete in an Olympic triathlon last summer in Rio de Janeiro, brought home a competitive field after leading from the first swim.
He then held on to his advantage on the bike before a strong final run saw him extend his lead through to the finish line.
England’s Sam Wade and Jamie Bedwell finished second and third. “I am a little bit surprised as I thought I would be caught on the run but I managed to hold on for the win,” said the Arab Triathlon Champion.
“I had a strong swim. The waters were a little bit choppy but I like that as I have a short stroke and can adapt, so I was able to lead by a few seconds after the swim.
It was a really tough and hilly bike course but I managed to hold on to the lead and then I pulled away a bit in the run which was really pleasing.
“It was a great race and I am really happy and hopefully I will be back next year to do it again.”
The race consisted of a 600m swim in the sea, followed by a 20km bike and 5km run.
