‘RAMADAN IS A SPECIAL TIME FOR ME’
Jun 02, 2017
Like all top class athletes, finding the right balance of training and fasting is a challenge in itself.
But kick boxing star Udai Abu Hassweh has spoken to www.joc.jo about how he manages to stay healthy during the Holy Month.
The World and three-time Asian champion says that he tailors a specific programme to ensure that he maintains his world-class edge throughout the entire month.
“Ramadan is a special month for me,” said the 27-year-old.
“I tend to focus on two sessions throughout the month. I do kickboxing practice before Maghreb and then focus on fitness after Iftar.
“In the night however I tend to spend my time with my family.”
Abu Hassweh believes that Ramadan helps him appreciate what he has in life.
“If athletes need to accomplish their dreams, they will need to learn from Ramadan on how to train hard and be patient.”
Abu Hassweh pointed out that winning the World Championship gold in Ireland this year 2017 was undoubtedly the highlight of his sporting career, but that could well be topped when he competes in the World Games this summer.
That event consists of sports that are not in the Olympic programme, and Jordan will be competing in it for the first time in Poland in July. He will also represent Jordan at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan on September.
