TAEKWONDO ADD FOUR MEDALS IN BAKU

 Jordan have won four more bronze medals on a glorious day for the team competing in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku.

And it was the taekwondo team that took centre stage, with Shahed Al Turman getting things underway with bronze in the 62kg weight after losing to Turkey’s Yman Ayram in the semi final.

It was a family affair too with her sister Wa’ed Al Turman also winning bronze after reaching the semi-final where she was eventually stopped by Turkey’s Solot Boyet in the 73kg.

The men were not to be outdone with Mohammad Asfour adding bronze in the 63kg weight following his semifinal loss to Iran’s Mahdi Yousafi.

His teammate Anas Adarbeh picked up the kingdom's fourth bronze in the 74kg weight, ending his great run in the semi-final to Uzbekistan’s Nikita Raflovech.

Meanwhile, the 3x3 basketball team has gained some invaluable international experience on its return to competition.

Despite day one defeats to Indonesia and Mali, the team, all aged Under 18, will be looking to build on its experience for future competition and will have two more matches on Friday against Qatar and Ivory Coast. Jordan's Wrestlers came close to achieving medals but narrowly missed out.

Ahmad Dahshan lost his bronze match to Turkey’s Abdulsalam Gungal in the semifinal of the 66kg category. Dahshan beat Pakistan’s Muhsen Abbas 11-2 in the quarterfinal. Meanwhile, Hamzeh Awadallah missed out from Baku after losing the quarterfinal to Turkey’s Othman Yeldrem 8-0 in the 130kg competitions.

His teammate Amir Ishakat followed him after losing to Kyrgyzstan’s Azat Bishibkove 9-0 in the 85kg category.

Sultan Al Damen also lost the 75kg competitions to Kyrgyzstan’s Muslim Evlaev 4-1. Tomorrow, Essam Al Kharabsheh will compete in 57kg category.
