OBADAH INTO QUARTER-FINAL

Jordan’s Olympic boxer Obadah Al Kesbeh put on a masterclass as he booked a place in the quarter-final of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games which officially get underway tonight in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Al Kesbeh breezed past Pakistan’s Soleman Baloch, 3-0, in the 64kg to book a last eight match-up with Turkmenistan’s Volcan Gokcek on Tuesday.
His teammate Mohammad Abu Jajeh missed out in the 60kg weight, losing 3-0 to Turkmenistan’s Hursand Imankuleve.
HANDBALL FINISHED EIGHTH
The handball team signed off with a strong performance despite losing 33-31 to Pakistan.
Despite finishing eight, the team can take heart from some encouraging performances from their four matches, particularly from top scorer Khaled Abu Hassan who bagged another 10 goals.
Ahmad Musa scored nine in the defeat.
WEATHER THWARTS TENNIS PROGRESS
The men’s tennis match between Jordan and Qatar was postponed due to heavy rain with the match standing at one each.
Saif Adas beat Musa Zaied but Musa Quttob lost to Mubarak Zaid to leave the match on a knife edge.
It will be finished in the morning followed immediately by a game against Pakistan.
JUDO, KARATE AND SWIMMING BEGIN SATURDAY
Younis Awdat will launch Judo’s campaign on Saturday against the winner of Palestine’s Wesam Abu Rmaileh and Saudi Arabia’s Abdualziz Bashi in the -74kg category.
Ayah Qattan will play against Azerbaijan’s Aysha Ghubanli in the 48kg ladies, while Hadeel Al Alami will play against the host’s Munkhtsedeve in the 57kg category.
Ruzan Al De’aja launchges karate’s bid in the 50kg, while Majedah Al Bashayreh (55kg), Huda Jaber (61kg), Bashar Al Najjar (67kg) and Hatim Al Deweek (75kg) are all set to follow.
